FAX ART .....1972-95

From the Mail_Art, to the Fax_Art.
The fax machine has been the precursor of Internet because it was the first tool that allowed the possibility to transmit images and texts in real time. The artists have use it as a new tool, even if it did not offered a good image quality, because it allowed the communication and interaction in real time through any place that had a good quickly and stable telephone line.

1972 The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
The first experiences with the fax as a transmission tool took place at the Generative Systems Department at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1972 where the fax machine, among other copiers for the students, were used to transmit images and texts in real time.

1993. At the Circle of Fine Arts in Madrid, with her students at the workshop de Arte Actual in 1992, she developed one of the most important fax installations of her carrier, the Fax-Station. This station at the Circle was the platform to send and to receive images and texts from all over the world. A fax machine, as a reception point, was hanging from the ceiling and falling to the floor to form a pyramid of contents.
The "Circulo" was also the station place in Madrid from where she organized the exchanges with other international art centers to develop projects sending messages in real time with important European, American and Canadian institutions.
